could someone please explain this scripture to me!!?

Matthew 5:13 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

Luke 14:34-35 “Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Jesus compared what we ought to be for others, we must be like the salt that gives flavour to the food that we eat. So do we have to be towards our fellowmen and women. We must always be an inspiration for others, light up the path of those who are lost, draw them near to God that their life may also have new life and beginnings towards their relationship with God and men.

Salt is just a mere representation of what human acts should be towards others. Since salt brings out the best flavours in any dish, so must we with our attitude towards others

This should be read as a parable. Jesus was famouse for his parables. It is an attempt to put the unknown in words that earthly people canunderstand.

Matthew 5:13: Salt is valuble anduseful, but if it has no flavor, it is of no use, might as well just throw it on the ground. If you do not have your Savior, although man is king of all beast over the earth, he is of no use. You need your Savior to be complete.

Luke 14:34-35 : This passage is essentially saying the same thing. Salt is of no good without flavor, and manis of no good without his faith.

Sometimes it helps to read a few before of after the passage you are trying to decipher to determine the context it should be taken in. Parables can be helpful, but often they take some thought as well.
