Hunting is a long standing tradition in many cultures. I believe that teaching our children to hunt is essential to the survival of the species. There will come a time – who knows when? – but there will come a time when there are no grocery stores. We will be forced to revert back to providing for ourselves. Hunting is instrumental in this case.

That said, while teaching our children to hunt we must also teach them respect for nature. Eating a tiger’s paw isn’t going to make your manhood bigger, or your libido larger. Elephant tusks are ornamental only, and to take the life of such a noble creature so you have a pretty piece on your mantel is criminal. Proper hunting can provide food, clothing, shelter, and tools. Improper hunting will cause extinction and a diminished food supply. Hunt, but hunt with a pure purpose, and have the utmost respect for the life you have taken.

Okay, you’re talking about two different things – hunting and poaching. There are also different kinds of hunting – hunting for sport and hunting for food. My father, my grandfather, my brother, and the vast majority of my cousins are all hunters. I’m not, and wouldn’t be, because I get upset when my fish die, but I have no problem with them hunting because they hunt for food. I’ve grown up eating venison, and I’m sorry to say to all the anti-hunters out there that Bambi’s darned tasty. So is Bison meat, elk meat and antelope meat, all of which I’ve tasted because my father is a hunter.

Hunting for sport, on the other hand, when you’re just killing an animal for it’s hide, it’s antlers, or the sake of killing them because you can, I don’t agree with at all. It’s wasteful and disrespectful to the animal and nature in general. My parents know people that will shoot anything brown that moves during deer season, no matter what size the deer is, and then can’t understand why the deer are getting scarce. Well, when you kill all the young ones before they’ve reached maturity and have had a chance to reproduce, that’s what happens.

As for poachers, I firmly believe they should be shot on site, skinned, and had their spleens/teeth/whatever removed and sold on the black market, since that’s generally all they do with the animals they slaughter. Especially elephant poachers. I know you asked about Bengal tigers, but elephant poachers really infuriate me and should honestly be shot if they’re caught poaching.

You really don’t need my first name and last initial.

I am a hunter. I hunt deer and do eat the meat or give it to someone less fortunate. Deer actually kill more Americans than any other animal because of car accidents.

As far as Tigers, those people just kill Tigers for their hides and to make money on them. That is their sole purpose and if a Tiger kills one of them, good.

While meat is not the top food of consumption for humans, it is part of our diet (hence the sharp canines). And though it may seem cruel to go out and kill something to provide for yourself, think of all the hapless animals that are packaged so nicely (and sanitarily) in the grocery store- sure, you didn’t kill it, but SOMEONE did, and most likely it was a domesticated, ill-treated, diseased animal bred for the sole purpose of meat production. I would rather give my prey a chance to out-smart/run me, live a natural life in the “wild” and feel pride in my hunting skills when I do get something than eat something simply labeled “Beef”.
