You really seem afraid of the new experience, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I can’t decide instead of you, but i tell my opinion of the points you made. First off, the distance. Take advantage of the additional time by studying and doing some of your homework.
Not being a top in your class could be hurtful to your ego π but it will motivate you to reach more heights, get more knowledge, and if you’re surrounded by smarter and better motivated students, they will “pull you along”, put your studies into a new perspective. Additionally, not being the best, rather an average in this school means that you’ll be far more above the others in different schools. This _ will_ come as an advantage when you want to apply to a collage. Even more so, if you decide now to “jump”, and look for yourself that it is really only a next step in your life, the _other_ “steps” like this won’t come to be as “traumatic” and as that much of a change. (like getting used to collage or university)
TV shows: pick only one that is in a suitable time, and watch only that. (i don’t mean daily shows, maybe a weekly would be preferable) Like i watch House MD once a week, and this way my TV-needs are satisfied and it doesn’t even takes up too much of my time.
Sport uniform: not an issue.
Not knowing your peers: get to know them. meeting new people is always fun, don’t be afraid, if you’re open and friendly to them, they will return the favor. Many is worrying about not being accepted. But if it is a strict school, they won’t tolerate any less of the best behavior, so your peers will know just to accept you and be done with it. π
Mac.Rob being strict: well, you _are_ a growing up teenager. π Many of your peers “sign away” their future by not studying _now_ . You need to realize that it is time to set the basis of your future.
I say, do it. Do it now.
This means being treated like an underclassman regardless of your grade ranking, needing to challenge yourself in order to maintain average grades, and risking not being “at the top of your class”. Well, are you up to the challenge? Or is it easier to say that you will have to take a long ride, a less convenient mode of travel, and adjust your schedule to accommodate the difference and that this will be too much for you to bear. (By the way, you left out how much more this is going to cost you.)
I mention the cost, because not choosing the new school probably will cost you. It will cost you the higher place in society, the larger paycheck, the opportunities for advancement that would have been yours down the road.
A lot of people don’t feel that their life is worth this trade-off and you may be one of them. If that is your morale stand, I commend you. If you are doing it because you are fearful, remember this, if you choose the former school out of fear, you can be guaranteed of one thing, you will probably have a lot more of that leisure time sitting around on your couch watching TV.
I have one last question for you. Ten years from now when you look back at your schooling which will be the bigger regret. Knowing that you were first in a school which you feel did not challenge you to your full potential or being in the middle of the class rankings in a school that did?
(PS Don’t leave your future to a simple yes or no response.)
Go, you will have a better education and that’s all that really matters!
