Why is U.S school history classes are so biased?
Why is it okay for the United States to kill off thousands of Native American during Manifes Destiny? Or the My Lai Massare? And the protests of vietnam war was nothing. You almost never heard what the U.S did bad in history classes but you always hearing stuff like how Communism started the Cold War or anything that is not Democracy is evil.

To the victor belong the spoils — and the right to rewrite the history. You are absolutely correct. The history taught in schools is far from unbiased, but there is no reason for you to limit your reading to textbooks. There are libraries full of books on every subject under the sun – and they are written from all points of view. That’s the great thing about an education – it allows you to go past the information the educators give you, and learn about the world for yourself.

It is not OK for the US to kill anyone. If school did not teach you about the examples that you gave how did you learn about them?
Our country did many good things and some bad ones. You are focusing on the bad and neglected to mention anything good. Perhaps that is one reason that not too much attention is placed on the bad. Many become fixated about the bad and that is all that they think about,
High school history classes do focus on some of the things that we did that is not good. Some examples are Andrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears, the destruction of the buffalo and its effect on the American Indian, the seizure of Texas, causes of our entry into the Spanish American War, the use of the Alien and Sedition Acts, slavery and the discrimination against African Americans.

You are right in saying that history classes do not depict the US in ever doing anything bad. However, in other countries, the same thing happens. The educational systems would prefer not telling students all of the facts until they are more mature and can handle them. Every country has made mistakes and our country is not any different.Most of the events in history are from rebellions and retaliations but others was just poor judgment. Our country was just trying to make things better, in its own way but what’s done is done.

I have no clue. Its a HUGE flaw in our education system and society in general. I didn’t know the US had concentration camps for Japanese Americans during WW2 until I went to college and actually learned something from a professor who wasn’t afraid of telling us what REALLY happened.

We learned about all of those things in my US history classes. Just like we don’t take the day off for Columbus Day because we don’t support what he did.

you say it is biased…I think YOU are biased. You could always go to school in Iran or Pakistan and really see how biased education is. Go there for a year or two and then come back and tell us which system you prefer.
