Why doesn’t your pen sometimes work after you re-write in the same place?

It happens to me and my pens. After I write a word, and it runs out of ink for a second, I keep writing, and it works for every other spot besides that one part where it skipped. Why does it do that?

It’s possible that oil from your hand prevents the ink from sticking.

My guess would be that the dry ballpoint scores the paper smooth, and then the ball in the point slips instead of rolling around collecting more ink as it would on a normal paper surface when you try to rewrite it.

Maybe try a gel pen.
