I won’t make any sweeping statements, but a lot of people who go (or went) to private schools ARE snobs. I have a friend who went to one, and we were talking about school vouchers one day, and she basically said that “if you can’t afford to go to a private school, you don’t deserve to go to a private school”. If that’s not an elitist attitude, there’s no such thing.

I used to go to a private school, but transferred to public to persue an acting dream. What I have found is that some people find that if you are paying to go to a different school, while living in the same area with other people your age, you are saying that you do not want to be with them because they are inferior and not worthy of your help. One of my teachers would make comments about how my “mommy and daddy” weren’t paying for my grades, so I would have to make them by myself. This greatly angered me one day, so I sought out a teacher to ask them what their feelings were on the subject. Their ideas were that people find it threatening that a private school person will come in from “the protective world” and not be accustomed to the harsher aspects of High School.

People are sometimes secretly jealous that their parents did not spend money on their education, and must take it out on the people they feel were given “a better chance”.

There is a perception that all rich or wealthy people are snobs. Sometimes it can be true, but then people with less money can also be snobs. I suppose wealth is more conducive to snobism but doesn’t make it mandatory. People are also envious of those who are better off (financially or otherwise) and hate them for it. My step sister went to a private school but she turned out to be a great person and very educated. It’s too bad the public school system is such a joke.

not saying you are rich because i went to a private school and i am not rich….the only comments people made to me is that we have to wear uniforms and we have a religion…

Either they are jealous because of their crappy school, or they believe that parents that pay for good education must be rich/snobby. Another stereotype. Ignore people like that, they aren’t worth the trouble.
