Why are we put in the classes that we’re put in?

Last year we changed classes. We do it again this year, but I just don’t understand why we are placed in the classes that we’re placed. Is it done randomly at this grade?

Students are always trying to figure out which are the “smart” and “dumb” classes in school. The answer is there are none. Students are now placed in classes that will have heterogeneous grouping. That means the level of achievement is broad; some of everything in every class from gifted to special needs to lower achievement students. This is done so that students may learn to work with each other in an inclusive environment, much like they will experience when they enter the world of work. Studies show that in this kind of learning situation students can best assist one another with learning. Everyone has some talent in some area and they will learn to use it to the advantage of small groups.

It takes all kinds to make a world and it also takes all kinds to make a classroom.

You’re going to need to be more specific in order for us to have an idea of what you mean. Are you talking about the subjects you take, the teachers you get, the level you’re put in? Best of luck

it’s based on past grades and past teacher recommendations. If you do very well in english class, they’ll consider placing you in honors english and so on.
