Why am I struggling to graduate?

Because I can’t do the required math, I cannot be promoted to the next grade. I have high expectations, with a planned career in politics. Why is/should this hold me back? Algebra doesn’t really apply to politics.

You shouldn’t think of it that way. If you really want a career in politics or any other career, you have to crawl before you walk. If you aren’t doing well in math, I recommend giving extra attention to the subject, talking and building a relationship with your professor, and finding help. Schools provide many different sources of help that you simply have to dig for. If you really want to graduate, you will do these simple things. You have the rest of your life to do what you love, but you have to pay your dues for a short period of time before you can get there. Math is more necessary than you think. You may get rich and have financial advisors, but you should be able to handle your own finances in case someone tries to cheat you. Think about it.

Push through it. You don’t have to be in love with it, it may be difficult, but do you think that anyone will want to vote for someone who won’t push through on the difficult problems of this world? As a political figure, you’ll need your math to help you to understand the financial and technical parts of legislation. You don’t want to short your constituents because you were afraid to make yourself push through on a difficult course such as algebra, its the problem solving ability you need to take a hard look at. If you can’t handle algebra, why are you trying to represent me, when you can’t represent yourself?

You answered your own question. Because it is required. School serves two purposes. Yes, one of those is to prepare you for your intended career. The other is to give you a complete, balanced, and well rounded education/knowledge base. That includes algebra.

If you are having trouble with the class, talk to your teacher. They may be able to help you. Look into tutoring.

Maybe algebra doesnt directly apply to what you want to do , but as I tried to point out to my son…the reasoning ability found there most likely will….and the mental exercise will not hurt you one bit… I didnt think it would ever apply to me either but I found myself using it…..
