Which high school to choose?

We have a choice between two high schools for my kid.

1. Best high school, attracts many top, straight-A students. My kid is an A-B with occasional C student. Thus, performance will be mediocre in comparison at this school.

2. Mediocre high school where my A-B kid will be one of the top performers.

Which high school would you choose?

It’s not about how your kid performs in relation to others, it’s about what education (s)he gets while there. The superior school will provide more of a challenge and a better education. The inferior school will merely make them think they are doing better, when in the great scheme of things, they are not.

Send them to the better school.

Well, normally i would say definitely go to the better school because for college, its not only about the grades, its about the rigor of the course. But, if you think your child is going to fail the class at the better school because it will go too fast or something, then that’s not good, because then your child is supposed to be learning, not struggling to understand, and maybe the mediocre school would be best.If it is that the child would get B’s or something at the better school, then that fine because it shows the college that you were willing to challenge yourself, and you tried. It doesn’t really matter whether your child is the top performer, so much than if your child is learning so that they will actually be able to graduate. If you can sit in on the classes and see how they are taught that would be great. Ask if the schools offer that. Hope this helps!

Wheaton. It’s more diverse, don’t you think? You can have a mix of all of the above. :] And the other schools are more orientated towards one thing, you don’t experience very much, and if you decide, say, performing arts isn’t for you, it’s hard to transferring schools in the middle of the year. You’ll be able to meet a lot of other different people as well, not just dancers or actors [following my example with a performing arts]. That’s just my opinion, but then again, I have no real talent. ^___^” If you have a burning passion for rocket science, or sports, or whatever, go for it, if you really want it.

It doesn’t matter how your child does in relation with others, it only matters what type of education your child gets. Of course if he goes to the 2nd one, he will be considered smart and he will not be challenged enough. My teacher once said…I dont give out A+ because nobody is perfect and if you get an A in this class, you are not being challenged. Your child should definetily go to the best high school. It will award him in the long run.

It depends on your child. Is he or she just looking to get a diploma and go to a regular college? Then the second option is best. Or is your child looking to improve academically and doesn’t mind a challenge? Then the 1st option is best. Both schools seem good, but the expectations are different. As I said, if the child is really interested in academics, then go to option 1. If he or she doesn’t really care, and just wants to have a regular high school experience, go to option 2.
