What was your most successful school fundraiser?

Any details are appreciated. This is for an elementary school in Arizona, but any ideas are welcome! Thank you!

The most successful fundraiser I’ve ever personally been involved with was a Spring Carnival at my child’s elementary school. It was pretty labor intensive, required lots of volunteers and planning, but it was by far the biggest money maker ever. (Not to mention it was a relief to not sell wrapping paper and chocolate for a change.)

We brought in an inflatable slide and obstacle course, a snow cone vendor and pizza. Each class was responsible for hosting a game or event of some sort. (Face painting, ring toss) We took in baked goods donations and not only sold them by the piece, but had a cake walk that made even more money. We had a DJ and karoke. We sold tickets in advance (for a slight discount of course) and sold tickets at the event. Each thing cost a certain number of tickets, even the food. That reduced the number of people that actually had to handle money.

We sold song requests for tickets, DJ shout outs for tickets, everything we could possibly monitize we did.

We took in donations for a silent auction which made almost as much as the event alone.

Two classes were assigned a “theme basket”. Themes like ‘Grilling Out Tonight’, ‘My Perfect Kitchen’, ‘Pamper Yourself’, ‘Backyard Fun’, and so on. We did not use actual baskets, but to use the ‘Grilling Out Tonight’ example, a gas grill was the actual ‘basket’ and filled with things like gourmet sauces and marinades, hot mitts, gift cards, outdoor dinnerware, etc. People put their name and number on the back of the tickets and dropped them into a jar assigned to each theme. Near the end of the event, a ticket was drawn and the winner announced.

The assistant principal agreed to wear a clown wig the Monday after the event if we reached our goal. Of course we did.

We have a local full service salon donate a day of beauty for a raffles. In return we advertise their services in our schools calendar and yearbook. They are also invited guests to all our school functions and are recognized for their support at the end of the school year. .Our most successful fundraiser was for a Nintendo WII. We raised over $5000 in 4 weeks last Xmas.We had a generous teacher/parent wait in line for 2 days and gave the school the wii at cost.

We are doing a Schwan’s fundraiser. You sell it and they deliver it. Everybody around here loves Schwan’s food, so it was a no-brainer.

The best idea is one that is unusual for your area. Pick something new that no one has done in a while
