What’s this wooden thing called?

Is there a specific term for the device in this video? Ignore what the video is (a family guy episode) it is the only good example I have to ask this question. I want to know what the board is the guy in the red shirt (yes I know he’s named Quagmire) is called. It is at 00:28 into the clip and he lifts it up. You often see it in bars or restaraunts to allow easy access behind counters. What is it called?

It’s just the part of the bar that lifts up to let you go behind it…

It is called a “bar hatch” meaning the lift up portion of a bar that allows access in and out of the bar area.

Interesting question. I’ve seen these things all my life and never though of what to call it.

The answer is a hinged countertop and is used in banks, offices, restaurants and bars as a latch to secure the countertop and allow people to pass through the opening.

You can find out more info at the site below.

Hope this helps…

I think hatch may be correct.

hatch – noun

(the door or cover of) an opening in a wall, floor, ship’s deck etc
