What is an efficient way to learn French?

I am currently a High School junior. I am taking two demanding AP classes that, in effect, required me to drop my French III class. Now, in order to not forget the language, I’m looking for an effective and preferrably quick way to absorb the equivalent of a French III course on an Honors level or an otherwise reputable French education.

The best thing to do would be to talk to native speakers as much as possible (either in France or Quebec or find a conversation club in your city).

If thats not feasible the next best thing would be to watch French TV, read French books and newspapers, and correspond in French with a French pen-pal. Listening to tapes can help comprehension but does little for production (written or verbal fluency).

Bon Chance! A bientot.

Check for a pod cast system and sign up for a high end french newspaper online, le Figaro or Le monde, and read it diligently. Also carefully plan out a trip to France using guidebooks, even if you don’t know when you’ll actually take it. Memorize a poem in French. If possible find yourself a smart educated French girlfriend.
