What is a program/organization that I could become involved with as a teacher?
Something more than a club, and nothing where I would need to travel for a length of time.

ASCD or the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development would be a wonderful professional organization to become involved with. Some material slants more toward admin., but most of what they produce and do can help you become a better teacher!

The best organization for mentoring teenagers is your local Drum & Bugle Corps. The drum corps world is active all year long, but really takes off during the summer time when they are in competition all across the United States. Participants learn self-discipline, teamwork, and how to be a good human.
