It really doesn’t matter if it is YOUR phone or not. It is HER classroom, and the school rules and classroom rules apply while you are attending school. You should have had the phone put away until after school. I am a teacher, and I actually had a student’s phone go off in the middle of class (and this is fifth grade!). I made the student take it to the office with a note and called down at the office to let them know she was bringing it to the office. If you think THAT was harsh what you went through…this student will not get her phone back until the parent retrieves it.

OK, I hate to say this because I’m probably about the same age as you, I’m assuming you mean high school? At my college, we aren’t allowed to have cell phones on or even near us during tests because of cheating precautions (texting answers or even taking pictures of the tests) so that was probably the reasoning there since you guys were taking a test… plus the fact that come on… it’s a cell phone.

However, the teacher is in charge. I’ve had my share of bad teachers before, but honestly, whatever they do is probably for the best to cause the least amount of disruption… by now, students should realize that phones are/can be a disruption and will the teacher may just take them first without a warning (especially in high school, where students should know better).

I don’t think you should have been written up for taking the phone off the desk afterwards (however, I would have asked to have it back). I pay my own cell phone bill, so I understand your sentiments. However, school is a learning environment and you should really just leave it off/silence it and keep it out of sight in a classroom. I personally don’t have a problem with people having their cells out in class, but some people do. It’s not just policy- it’s good manners. Some people are really annoyed at texting or game-playing while they are trying to finish a test, etc…

So no, I don’t think it’s fair you were written up for a first violation, but I also think that maybe next time you should be more careful and maybe just leave your cell out of the picture (yeah, it’s boring to just sit there… but you’re not going to die).

My school doesn’t allow phones period, but I think that is unfair. He should’ve given you a warning, and I don’t see what you did wrong by getting it after school, I mean it’s not like it’s during classtime

i think that the situation is extreemly unfair. we have the same policy in my school.

Unfortunately since that is the teacher they will be considered in the right.
