Well, I think some of the dress code rules are a little dumb (like not being allowed to wear spaghetti strap shirts at school when you get in the warm months). However, I agree with the reasons they were put in place – for example, most (not all, but most) spaghetti strap shirts show a lot of cleavage, to the point of almost falling out for some girls – that’s indecent and distracting and needless for school. The same with the short skirts – it’s just indecent if they’re really that short. However, the rule some schools have about “it has to come to your fingertips when your hands hang at your sides” is just silly – some girls have longer legs than others, or are taller than others, or are built differently in general – so it’s not a fair standard, and some girls can’t find shorts long enough to make the administration happy. Hats can get a little out of hand as well – some people would wear crazy hats daily, and it would be distracting. But that comes from the old tradition of it being disrespectful to wear a hat inside a building (though I realize times have changed).

Some aspects of school dress codes are kind of stupid, but a lot of them make sense. If girls were allowed to wear short skirts or skimpy tops, boy would be staring at them all day instead of paying attention to class, and honestly does any girl want guys staring at them all day?

Same thing for the current trend that guys’ pants be so low you can see their underwear. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to see guys’ underwear. I think it’s absolutely gross and I don’t even want to talk to guys who insist on doing that.

Hats are only banned at my school because I’ve been told people would write answers to tests on them and use them to cheat, so I think that’s a bit stupid.

Pretty much beyond basic modesty standards, I think students should be able to wear whatever they want.
