Don’t be shaking in your shoes all day. Be natural. My first day of high school, I was nervous and everyone around me knew it.

Date older guys with caution. When I was at band camp, I overheard one senior telling another “the younger girls are good because they believe all the things that I tell them”

Say “hi” to a lot of people, but don’t try to force a relationship. Saying “hi” opens the playing feild, but it won’t cause conversation where the other person may not want it.

Join a club. You meet new people and have something to do. Plus, it’s good for your college application.

Don’t think high school is everything. The “coolest” people in high school could be the biggest losers a year after graduation and the biggest nerds could be the most popular in college, the shyest girls could be the most outgoing, etc. The only time people get really worked up about high school is when they think it sets the stage for your whole life.

That being said, do try to get good grades because you will kick yourself if you don’t get a scholarship- a lot of people my age (late 20s) are sick with worrying about how to pay back all these loans. So don’t major in liberal arts in college! Ha.

Mostly, have fun, make friends, avoid the lame high school drama, and be yourself.

Definitely not to try to change who you are simply to fit in with the popular crowd no matter how tempting that is. Also don’t set out to get in trouble & break all the rules. That will also just label you as a bad kid with the administration & they will end up looking to you first when something happens.

You need to study and make good grades as your semester grades will be part of your permanent record. They help figure your GPA and class rank which are definite factors in the college you are able to get in to. But don’t forget to have fun. Get involved. Participate in or support school athletics. Clubs – figure out those that really interest you and join them. Get involved. If you’ve always wanted to be in drama but can’t act – join the stage crew. The ones at the high school have a ton of fun. So does the band. Four years will fly by before you know it. Make the most of them

Do NOT sit around waiting for your counseling office to work things out for you, b/c chances are they won’t. When you need something done [signing up for classes, schedule change, etc.] go and make sure it is being done by checking in regularly. Also, make sure you know when you start high school what the graduation requirements are, and get them done early. Do ALL homework. Even if it’s small, and you think it won’t affect your grade, all those little assignments really add up at the end of the semester.

Don’t let the guidance counselors scare you when they talk about prepping for college, watch out for older boys, and just be yourself. Find a club or sport you really love & join to make friends with common interests. And have fun! Do your homework, but get out and be social once in a while 🙂

The first day when all the teachers say that their class is going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever taken? Don’t believe that. Unless you’re in an AP class or some advance class, usually if you do your homework and pay attention in class you’ll do ok.
