Weight Training Class?

This year, I have to take Weight Training as one of my electives. Now, I’m nowhere near athletic and I’m shorter and a lot skinner than the boys my age. To top it off, I’m gay but not openly gay, so I’m an easy target to be teased. I’m worried that I’m going to make a fool of myself since I know I suck at any and every sport. I took Gym as a freshman last year and it was pretty fun but weight training seems like a whole new story. What can I expect to do in a weight training class?

You sound almost like me. I was just like you when i was younger, except that i wasnt gay (not saying nething bad about u at all). I was OK at baseball but sucked at everything else and i was very skinny and got made fun of all the time. but then i started to lift when i was 11 and a few years later everything completely changed for me and i was a new person with a better life (not that it sucked to begin with). It sounds that weight training might be a good thing for you to start. Things u will see are some of the boys showing off in the weight room trying to lift heavy weights and thinking they are badass. but just ignore them and lift properly (i assume there will be someone there certified to show u guys proper form). there will be other boys there just like u that dont know too much and are trying to act like the “tougher” guys, but dont follow them because that is the wrong path. talk to your teacher and have him or her help u set some nice goals for urself. If the other boys make fun of u for nething jsut ignore them and continue on with ur life because i promise u that they will pay for it in the future. I can name over 20 different guys that used to make fun of me and whatnot that r worthless now. I PROMISE you that if u keep ur head up high and work to whatever ur goals r then u will be something in life, and weight training can give u the tools u need for that. I ask that u email me and i can give u a good program that i started out with and help u out with any other problems.

good luck

I took it as my last period class in high school so nobody had to worry about showers and stuff.

Eat your weight in protein and train till failure… start out with as much weight you can lift and then knock it down without much rest in between sets. Keep taking weights off until you can barely bench the bar. You might look weak at first but you’ll see results faster.

Everybody had trouble starting out when I was in high school so don’t worry about that. First 2 weeks were the toughest

Don’t know what to expect from a class. I’d almost expect them to ask you to set a goal for yourself and work to obtain it.

Remember, weight training isn’t all about being “buff”, or like “power-lifting”. For some it is, but there’s also working toward definition, working for “core strength”, or weight training for a purpose – like rock climbing, dancing, weight loss, rehabilitation/preventative weight training. Like, I’m a nurse. You know what a big part of nursing is? MOVING PEOPLE AROUND! Not just in a wheelchair, but scooting them up in bed, putting them in a wheelchair, helping them up off the floor (it happens). I work out regularly to keep my strength up so I won’t injure myself doing my job.

Don’t let yourself focus on just one thing about weight training.

It could open your eyes up to a part of life maintenance that you hadn’t thought of.

I heard a comedian once talk about big, buff, gay guys. He joked about it saying,”He benches like 400 pounds, he must be gay!” Weight traing doesn’t care if you’re gay. I bet they just want to see improvement through the class. And don’t forget about pound for pound strength. A 200lb. guy who can bench 200lbs. may seem impressive until you stack him up next to a 150 pounder who can press 175! Now, who’s strong?
