Should I join choir?

I really want to get involved in some sort of school activity – however, I wasn’t really into band a few years ago and I don’t play an orchestra instrument, so I was thinking about joining choir.

I don’t have very much experience, and I’m not sure whether or not I should join – and I need to make this decision quickly.

What’s choir like? A lot of people I know who have already been in it say it’s no fun.

Should I join or not?

Thanks for your help!

If you want to get involved in a school activity, choir is a good choice. You don’t need to have a great voice, as long as you can just carry a tune (a little).

I was in choir when I was in 6th grade until I graduated from grammar school. Then, in high school, they called it Glee Club, but it’s the same thing.

It’s a great activity for someone who is shy, like I was at the time. Even though I was shy, I had a great time. I think it was because we all had to do the same things; we all learned songs together.

There were a lot of laughs too, especially when trying to mix the different groups together. You know that, with the girls, there are sopranos and altos. I sang soprano (high voice). We would learn our parts; then we would have to sing with the altos (low voice). Everyone would forget what they had learned and sing like the other group. What a mess πŸ™‚ Eventually, we got it all together.

People you know say it’s no fun? Well, partly it depends on who runs it. If they are crabby or something, it can lose some of its fun. I once had a real crab run it, but we made it fun anyway. We sort of drove her crazy!

A big thing is…do you like music (even if you don’t have a great voice)? If you like music, you will find it enjoyable. It’s a good feeling, after you spend all the time practicing together, to have a performance. It all comes together & sounds great.

You do get to meet new friends, and you all have something in common, so it’s easy. I know that we all had a lot of laughs.

I know it’s a lot more fun than the Chess Club β€” sorry chess players; I can’t help how I feel πŸ™‚

I think you should join. I’m far away from when I was in high school, but I still remember it clearly.

By the time I was a junior in high school, I was no longer shy. I have to say that being in choir (Glee Club) was a big part in that.

For many years after finishing high school, I still belonged to choirs with several different churches I belonged to.

Go ahead β€” take a chance. You might have a great time.

I did choir all during middle school, but stoppped in high school, but I really liked it becasue it was singing with your friends and if you are a bad singer it didn’t really matter because you would just sing quiet.

And it was also a time to hang out with friends and take a break from learning for a little bit. That’s why I did it because I myself am a horrible singer. Haha.

If this is something that interests you give it a try. Just because a few people told you they didn’t like it does not mean you won’t. Sometimes when people are not very good at something or find it difficult they will say they didn’t like it, or that it was dumb, or boring. So go with your gut feeling. If you join go with an open mind, a good attitude and I’ll bet you love it.
