I would carry only the essentials your first day since it will be more of an orientation day. One notebook, pencil, and pen. They may be giving books out the first or second day so you need something to carry them in. Yes others will be carrying their backpacks. Everyone does usually. You will look like a dork if you don’t have something to carry your books plus your back will be killing you by the end of the day.

I remember going into 8th grade…probably one of the harder grades that I had to go into because I was VERY insecure about how I looked…plus it was a new school in a new state. So even though I am 37, I can sympathize with you.

If nobody else is using backpacks and you don’t want to haul all of your school supplies with you, I would suggest taking a notebook, folder and pen with you until you get the locker. This way, you don’t have to do the backpack thing or haul your supplies around…generally, a notebook and pen is really all you are going to need the first week or so.

Good luck with back to school…and I am sure that you won’t look retarded. I am also sure that your classmates have the same worries and that you will be able to make some friends very soon.

To look cool, just bring a cool tote bag (but not so cool that it will be taken away from you for not applying with the uniform dress code). Messenger bags are cool, too (although granted, they don’t have that much space in them). You will need to at least bring some basic supplies to school–a 1″ binder with a lot of loose-leaf paper in it, some pens and pencils, and a folder ion the first day. That should be enough to suffice during the first week, but you will need to bring more stuff later on. So you probably will need a good backpack. Unfortunately, teachers have a way of assigning textbooks on the first day of class, so you may be stuck carrying them yourself.

If you have a binder, fill it with paper, pencils, pens and then bring more stuff as needed. If you don’t, just stick a few pens/pencils in your pocket and carry a 2 pocket folder with some paper.

I know some kids don’t seem to bring anything to school and I always wonder how they carry their homework, and keep track of notes…lol.

You won’t need a backpack for the first few days, as long as you have something to carry paper in and something to write with.

A Binder probably will work best, because you can keep everything you need organized and they have some pretty cool looking ones.

jist bring a book and a pencil so you can jot down what you require and some info for the class. it also shows you have swagger and it doesnt make you look nerdy.they cant say nothing cuz you didnt know what to bring. also, bring a small back incase they hand out books but dont get a big a55 bag, have you seen the nike bags that have strings? those are cools. also look for northface fanny packs. those were hot here in NYC
