Long, but helpful, I promise.

The one most important thing is that EVERYONE is nervous. Remember that because it helps to know you’re not alone in these situations. Just look at all the other soon-to-be freshmen posting this SAME exact question. They’re all nervous too. Don’t feel like you’re the only one who’s scared.

Do your summer reading, because it really does count towards your grade. Go to orientation if your school has it. Jot down a few notes or just try to remember. The teachers are NOT out to get you. They don’t hate you and they want you to do your best work. If you’re falling behind, just talk to them, privately, and ask them if you can get after school help. Not doing that was the worst mistake I ever made. I had to retake freshman english last year when I was a sophomore. It brought my self-esteem down for a while.

If your school gives you an agenda, use it. You may think you’ll remember all your homework, but truth is, there’s a lot more homework than you think, although some of it is easy, so don’t think you’re going to have 5 billion algebra problems. If your school doesn’t give you an agenda, buy one, or even buy a mini diary to write your homework and stuff in.

Making friends is easy if you speak up, and be yourself. If you pretend to be something you’re not, chances are everyone will notice. If you’re sitting alone, find someone else who’s sitting alone. Start up a conversation. If you don’t want to talk to someone else who is sitting alone, go up to a nice looking group of people. Try to find a person you’ve noticed in one of your classes to talk to.

You don’t need to have a boyfriend or girlfriend on the first week. Don’t have sex, no matter how much someone may pressure you. Ditto with drugs. Just don’t do it.

There’s no freshman beat down day, so don’t stay home because you think you’re going to be beaten. I know so many people who actually stayed home on that day when we were freshman, and I still get a good laugh about it because I told them all along it wasn’t real. You’re not going to be stuffed in your locker.

Best of luck to you!

Well… I’m going into 7th Grade, not High School…. but I have some tips. I am going into a public school for the first time and I’m very nervous.

But here:

1: Stay calm, don’t go crazy.

2: If you do, take a deep breath… it’s not like you in a mission.

3: Have confidence in yourself

4: Be open and introduce yourself to people. Don’t be scared.

They’re just people!!!

5: When you see everyone at lunch, go to a table… don’t just get your all alone table.

Good Luck in High School!!!

You’ll do fine!

But September 5th?!?!?!?!

My school starts August 27th!

1) Go to all your classes

2) Keep an agenda so you’ll know all the assignments in all your classes, & mark once you’ve completed them

3) Pay attention in class

4) Do all classwork

5) Do all homework

6) Study for tests

7) Start long-term projects well in advance

8) Hang out with good friends

9) No drugs, sex, weapons, gang activities

10) Ask questions when you don’t understand something

11) Make use of tutoring services, if you need them

12) Get into a sport or club, if you can arrange the transportation

Aloha from Down Unda!

I’d suggest that you embark without the idea of ‘surrvival’ & nurture the idea of ‘adventure’, ‘opportunity’, ‘stepping stone’, & ‘natural progression’ of your life. ‘Nervous’ is a great ‘cop out’ from a simple anxiety, ‘butterflies’, or even ‘awareness’ which are all extremely understandable but completely useless in dealing with your advancement toward this next ‘phase’ in your life… just embrace your ability to be able to recognise a milestone & be exceedingly GLAD you are progressing toward another chapter in what is uniquely yours…savor the experience & treasure the ‘feelings’. You are much more than you are able to percieve so far & you will become more than you are able to percieve EVER!

~”Today [& tomorrow] is the day the Lord has made so be glad in it”.

~”Don’t worry boud nuttin cause nuttins gonna be alrite!”

~”Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

Don’t worrie about it. Some people will tell you that highschool with be the worst 4 years of your life, but really, its not, well not for me. All you have to do is be your self, and actually try in your classes. Also getting a reputation your frshman year is not a good way to start,.

Don’t worry because it’s not that big of a difference. It’s just a new school and a little harder work. You already made the transtion fron elementary to middle school which is a lot harder than going to high school.

LOL. High school is not that scary.Apart from homework, which is the scariest part, there’s not much to fear. First, I would suggest to make some friends to protect against bullies and others. Also, I would suggest to get some higher grade friends, you never know when they come handy.

For the most part, smarter kids will not always do better, but the ones that put in the most work will!

Also, make sure to be involved with your school and join different groups, or clubs… make sure that you find a “niche” for yourself.

don’t procrastinate & don’t stress too much about little things. take school seriously, get “grammar smart” && “math smart” to help you on the SAT’s. you’re safe if you get those two books. make sure you read a lot as well
