High School Help?

I’m going to be a freshman starting Sept. 4. At the end of 8th grade, I was assigned a summer reading assignment by my future English teacher because we’re supposed to have a discussion, quiz, and essay…ALL IN THE FIRST WEEK! So I was planning on reading it beginning August, but I procrastinated and now I’m just beginning right now! It’s Greek Mythology, and I have to take notes. It’s 230 pages and I have a week to finish.

Do you think I can do it?

This isn’t really much of a question, just something that may give me a boost.

Yes…of course…I’m in college, and I had to read these really boring 70-page history assignments before every class (the class met 3 times/week) my freshman year, so you can DEFINITELY read this Greek mythology assignment…Just don’t procrastinate any longer…start now!!!

Also, take about 1-5 minutes after each chapter to kind of summarize what you read (just the stuff you remember off the top of your head)…this will help ensure you’re actually understanding what you read & not just looking at words on a page…If you have time, go back and look at the stuff in more detail & look up supplemental info online…that’s always helped me maximize my reading time!

Good luck!! You can do it! Think of it this way…if you can read 50 pages/day starting today, you’ll still have the whole weekend to enjoy before the drudgery of school begins again!!!

I actually think it makes sense that you waited. I have to do the exact same thing as you, except with TWO BOOKS! And I haven’t started them yet. I also had to read 4 books on top of that. I finished 2 of those and am on the 3rd. Yes, I procrastinate, but I also read and understand very well, And I could finish quickly, so unless something unforeseeable happens, I think I am covered. Don’t think of it as an assignment. This of it as something you wanted to do to learn something new. because the more you think of it as an assignment, the more it will seem like a chore and something you don’t want to do. Of course you can do it! I like the idea of making it into chunks. follow that idea. Hope this helps! And remember, there’s a girl that has to read 3 more books than you in the same amount of time. that’s supposed to make you feel better, not worse, just so you know 😀

YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO THIS!!!! It’s probably best to wait until the end of the summer to do it so you don’t forget anything for your quiz/essay. I had to read five books on politics and four english classics and i waited until the last two weeks to do it. I also had to write lots of essays. I just stayed completely focused, got comfortable, and worked my way through it. Just divide it up and read a certain amount each day…it’s not that hard!! GOOD LUCK!

You can do it! Greek Mythology is fun.

Isolde had great advice. Deal with it in chunks so it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. And start now! No more procrastinating.

We’ll be cheering you on!

Senior intense college is the acceptable same situation as intense college, basically a various call. Like in my city we’ve Austin Senior intense (intense college) and Austin junior intense (midsection college).

You can do it. Just not as well as you could have if you started early.
