I work part-time at a specialty retail store and we have those questions on our applications. I used to wonder that too…until I see how sometimes idiots answer… my boyfriend works at X store (a store two door down)…. i need extra money for Christmas… I want to quit my other job

Say what makes them be of interest to you…why does working for this company stand above the rest — noticed low turnover? enjoy using their services or product? heard good comments from a current/former employee? good reputation? interested in this field as a career? need nights/weekend/holiday employment [at a place that is busiest then]?

What skills would make you successful — friendly, team player, former experience, customer service orientated, problem-solver, organized…you get the picture

Say what you will, but if you don’t answer truthfully, you’ll get a job that isn’t right for you.

And you’ll fail at it miserably.

It’s better to not get a job that you aren’t right for then to get it, fail, and have the black mark on your resume.

I’ve seen it time and time again.
