My son got injuried at after school football practice because the students were playing around, what can I do

At the after school foot ball practice my son got injured and ended up in the emergency room for 3 hours because the students were horsing around during water break. One of the kid scooped my son up, span him then dropped him to the ground. I talked to the principal and asked that the kid and my son need to take the consequences for their actions and should be suspended from the foot ball team for the rest of the season, especially the kid whom dropped my son is the captain of the team and he should know better. My son and the kid should be used as an example to warn the rest of the students. The principal stated that it seemed too much of a big deal to pull a kid out of school sport because they were playing around and boys will be boys. He didn’t think it was a bid deal. I didn’t want to sue the school, the teacher, nor the kids, but I might have to because this had happened to so many kids and not taken seriously by school authorities. Anyone has any suggestion?

A similar thing happened when my sons played pee wee football last year. One of his team mates grabbed the helmet of another player while he was drinking water spun him and pushed him in the street in to on coming traffic. The mother filed a police report and the kid was kicked off the team.We sign a waiver and in it states our roles and responsibilities as players and parents.Since this is grammar/high school I would request a meeting with the school council or school board if you have one. There has to be some sort of guidelines for school behavior which also should apply for after school activities in writing somewhere. The school receives money from the state board of education to fund these sort of programs and these funds can be taken away.School are being held accountable these days for everything this includes school safety.I would request a security guard be present at all practices since the principle will not suspend the captain for assaulting your child which resulted in injury. If no action is taken on the schools part then you need to file a police report for assault and have a restraining issued on the captain of the football team. Its kinda hard to be captain with a police record.I would file the police report while they were having practice or at a game..Schools don’t like the police involved on school issues but they have given you no other choice

I think you are going a bit overboard with having the kids pulled from the team. It is unfortunate that your son was hurt, but the principal is right, boys and girls will be children and they will do things without thinking about what can happen. Reverse the situation, would you still feel the same way if that was your son who dropped a kid on the ground? I think what you should have talked with the principal about was the lack of supervision during the practice. Regardless of whether the kids were practicing or playing, there should have been some adult supervision to make sure things did not get out of hand. You also need to realize that the kids were just playing around and none of this was done on intent. The idea that you want to punish children for being children is ridiculous. That is just as bad as all of these cases that are being held to try and convict a child for just being a child. Our society is so screwed now that all the things we used to enjoy as children are being taken away and made into ugly things. Yes, we need to protect our young but where do we draw the line between protection and taking every thing away that a child can enjoy. I would suggest a warning, or to sit out one practice. They will get the idea and will no when and wear to horse around and what they should and should not do. Kids are smart, they do not always need harsh punishments to learn a lesson.
