Looking at the new plans for primary school children to sit a extra year if there not up to scratch?

English

Maths

Science

Design and technology

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

History

Geography

Art and design

Music

Physical education

How many of us remember studying the above subjects in primary school? In my opinion the children are expected to learn too much too young especially as most of it in my opinion is useless to a young child, what happened to THE 3 R’S? A contradiction in its self as these were reading writing and arithmetic, it makes sense The 3 R’S.

I think there is no wonder that children cant write and read properly when they are having to take so much in as well as the school production and extra cirriculum activities, does anybody else have a view on this?

I’m didn’t learn design and tech but yeah! we all had to take in a lot! its ridiculous! but music i like. ๐Ÿ™‚ i don’t even remember the 3 R’s because we focused sooo much of P.E. i must’ve lost 3 pounds during square dancing during 4th grade! we danced nonstop for 1 hour! it might not sound like much but something was wrong with the LP so we danced FAST! (this wasn’t a long time ago but the teachers used LPs.) :0 little third graders at my Alma mater. ๐Ÿ™‚ have to learn all the programs used on a PC its ridiculous! all they have to kno is how to use the Internet safely and how to use word and PowerPoint. they’re teaching them things I don’t even know about computers! and the teachers go too fast in lessons. example: fraction today. pre-algebra tomorrow! its amazing how the kids can take notes, study, and concentrate on other things too! Our standards are too high and they make kids learn these things when they’re VERY young. i mean, you have to learn stuff young but not THIS young! we should not be pushed like this. *sighs*

I’m from the United States in which it isn’t distinctive for a child to copy a 12 months in university. Kids with finding out issues, repeating a grade is arguable over right here although. Since this is not the norm within the UK then probably you’ll be able to ask the university what different choices are there. Did they allow you to recognise what form of studying remediation methods they must aid your daughter with studying? Some are quite amazing.

With the exception of ICT, pupils in primary school have always been taught these subjects and have always fared well. Problems with literacy and numeracy levels have only developed over the past twenty to thirty years, thanks largely to increased class sizes, parents becoming lazy in their duties to helping their children after school and too many government objectives disrupting teaching styles.

Instead of holding children back (which can lead to embarrassment and problems with friendships/bullying), I’m in favour of streaming children from the age of seven or eight by ability when it comes to core subjects like English and maths. It works well because it means kids who are above average are given extra work to keep them challenged while those who are struggling are given the extra attention they need. Only in extreme cases should kids be kept back a year.

I also think the government needs to stop meddling in how subjects are taught and allow teachers to best decide what is the style needed for each individual pupil.
