Is this legal for a school in Illinois to do??

Our school has tried to enforce policies that aren’t technically legal before. I was just wondering if anyone knew if this is legal to for a IL school to do.I am a junior in high school. I was going to take band. At our school band is a class it takes up the same amount of time and is counted as a grade like math or english. I play the oboe, and tumble. I realized right off the bat there was gonna be a major conflict. Tumbling classes were Mon., Wed., and Fri. And Marching band practices Wed. and games on Fri. And pep band was just all over the place but usually landing on one of those days. My mom told my teacher that I probably couldn’t do those since they were after school and interfered with my schedule, but I could . do concert band. My teacher said that I could miss that many games but I would fail because the class is performance graded and students must attend five pep band games and five marching band games after school. Can she legally do this?If you find anything it’ll help

Sorry, if you sign up for marching band, you have to go to the performances (football games). If you can’t fit it into your schedule, then you can’t take the class.

Decide.

Of course they can do this. It is a class. The teacher has the authority to decide what a student needs to do to earn a good grade.

To earn an A for this class you have to attend 5 pep band games and 5 marching band games.

You will either need to drop this class, or drop your other activities. You just have to decide which activity you enjoy the most.

This isn’t really a “legal” issue, it’s a choice, on your part. You have to decide what it is you want to commit to and what you are going to have to give up. There is a criteria for passing any class and each student must follow the same rules.
