Is this a Harsh Punishment for a B- in Honors English (my worst subject)?

I go to a Catholic school, which are known for harder classes. At my worst subject, English, I got a B- (85%) for the semester. At the public schools, that’s a solid B. My mom got furious when I got something lower than a B. I told her I tried my best (and she saw me study hard), but I’m just not that great at English. Keep in mind that I was taking Honors English (not by my choice), and I’m terrible at English as it is.

Anyways, school starts next Monday, and my mom gave me these new rules I have to follow:

I am not allowed to go out Mon-Thurs. I must be home by 4:00. I cannot watch TV or go online. I also have to stay in my school uniform (with the shirt tucked in) until all homework is done. And since I’m in honors classes, I’m not done until like 9:30. The next morning, I have to be in my uniform by 6:00 AM. Then from 6-7, I’m supposed to just study something.

For Friday, I have to stay in my uniform until all chores are done (usually 6:00 PM)

So is this too harsh?

It sounds a bit harsh to me but arguing with your mom about it will not help anything. Begin the year with the new rules, after a couple of weeks, try and renogiate them with your mom. I agree with the no going out Mon-Thurs but maybe the uniform thing can be changed. If you have that much homework, you wouldn’t have time for computer or tv anyway.

Trixie (or is it Kelly) …

I suspect there are a LOT more problems going on here and you’re pretty much trying to put up a snow job! A good clue is you are posting your complaints under two IDs (yet using the same picture).

Quit whining, tuck in your shirt and get to work.

I think maybe you should get the Sister to come to your house with the ruler and maybe have a talk with your mother!

Yes they is way to strict. I would be jumbing for joy if my kids brought home a B. I do however think they are able to make at least C’s I think you are doing just fine in school. Think maybe mom needs to lossen up.

Most people would say this falls within the realm of parental perogative.

That is, to her it is extremely important that you get grades and that other events are not as important.

Do I agree with her? I don’t know you and I don’t know what problems you have. It would be harsh in our household.

That is ridiculous! For a B-? A B is above average. Did you consider reminding her that you didn’t want to take honors English in the first place? NUTS, I say!

To me this sounds harsh. Your mom probably is just looking for you to succeed but instead of encouraging you she is being very harsh.
