Is high school REALLY that much harder than junior high?

I’m going into high school as soon as summer is over. However, about two months ago, all the teachers and staff kept talking about how much harder high school is compared to junior high. They were rather vague though.

The thing I’m worried about is grades. A lot of my teachers mentioned that if you get an A in junior high, it’ll be a B in high school and B’s in junior high are C’s in high school and etc.

Is that true? I’ve gotten a 4.0 GPA in my two years of junior high (my classes were advanced too). Are the teachers just trying to scare students to work harder? Should I be worried?

I made about the same grades in high school as I did in jr. high without really working that much harder. (I did see kids around me whose marks dropped.) Sure, you’ve got more homework usually, but nah, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I suspect that most kids whose marks go down are the ones who think they can work as much as they did in jr. high. Well, it doesn’t work that way! Just like you worked more in gr. 2 than in gr. 1, high school means working harder than how you worked in jr. high. Not a whole lot, but you do have to put in a bit more effort.

You’ll be fine. 🙂 Otherwise, nobody would be getting A’s in high school and many kids get A’s!

In one way the work is harder because it is more advanced. On the other hand if you have been working at junior high then you will have put in all the ground work then you will be ready for it. Of course work given in at junior high that got an A wouldn’t get an A at High School. But you will be handing in different work because you will have learned more. It is a bit of a jump but lots of people get A’s at High School so they made the jump and so will you. Don’t worry.

Junior year was by far the hardest but honestly…you’re doing the right thing taking AP classes. I’m currently in college and I am often thankful that my Junior year was hard w/ AP classes because I have more in depth background in my field and it really prepares you. The point: good job! Now advice: obviously you’re gonna have to manage your time. Actually study for tests to the point where you feel confident teaching the subject to someone else. Don’t procrastinate (junior year was the first time the reality of pulling an over-nighter slapped me in the face). Your mom might not like this but your taking college classes so treat it like college: work hard play hard. Obviously it doesn’t have to be dangerous or anything, but be sure to have fun with friends and de-stress with sports, yoga–whatever works for you. Good luck! Just keep thinking about how fun senior year will be now! 🙂

Sorry, but yes. High school is a lot harder. Many of your teachers assign homework everyday, and they don’t give you time to work on it in class. The assignments and tests are harder, especially if you are taking advanced courses or if you have a good teacher. I wouldn’t use that exact grade corelation, yes its harder, but the grades are completely based on the amount of work you put into it. It isn’t a “scaring” technique they are using; its the real deal. But if you apply yourself and work hard and well, you will be fine. Good luck.

High school needs to be taken seriously. It’s a lot more work and its harder to catch up if you get behind. I’m a 9th grade teacher and a lot of my kids struggle with this at first. In Middle School, nothing really counted so they didn’t realize how much they were hurting themselves. Just work hard and ask for help if you find yourself getting in over your head.

Teachers ALWAYS say that. They just want you to take high school seriously, but it’s not going to be that bad. Don’t worry. The work load should be a natural step up from junior high, and you sound like a good student, so you’ll be fine.

My teachers said junior high was going to be hard when i left elementary school. and it was fine. And they said the same thing when i was going to high school.

You’ll be fine.

I remeber that …. no its not REALLY harder… what is harder is that you want to socialize more in high school so your work falls to the wayside…….. if you keep doing what you are doing you will be fine… the work is not any harder than learning something new always has been… good luck

It really depends on the courses you take, but you will need to study a whole lot more than Middle School.

The work load may increase, but if you do well in JH, you should do well in HS
