Cool Guy

In California, what grade does science root out into several subjects (ie. biology, chemistry, etc.)?

I just moved from Canada to the US and was just wondering what year science changes from a course studying all aspects of science into several different branches including bio, physics, etc. Thanks in advance.

At least at my school, Culver City High School, you began studying different subjects in high school (9th grade), however, this may be different depending on which school you go to.

The curriculum varies by school, the state requirements are pretty vauge. My school gave the students a lot of control as long as they met the requirements, and their choices could be overruled by the guidance counselors. For example, I took Biology, Physics, AP Physics, and Chemisty in that order, while some students had other programs. There were also more relaxed versions of Physics and Biology called Life Science and Physical Science for students that didn’t have as much talent for science. There is no set standard for the order you take the classes in, but you need to have one life science and one physical science class with a lab component.

In California it’s physics (9th grade),chemistry (10th grade), and then biology (11th grade). After that you’re done. But some schools are different from others.
