I teach and went into work today to unpack 50- 60 boxes as I?

had to change room this year, as did many teachers at my school. I was hot, the AC wasn’t working well, and I am exhausted. If I didn’t go in this early, there would be no way I’d be ready for classes in Sept. Other teachers were there too. Do you realize that the teachers move the furniture, boxes, put up bulletin board and literally hundreds of other tasks prior to school. I often wonder if people know what a hard job it is. And this is all before a kid ever steps into your classroom. Then the fun begins.

No disrespect, but where is the question?

Yes, I do realize how much work teachers put into their classrooms. You are doing a good job. I used to be an assistant teacher at a dance studio, and I know it’s not the same, but I had to put up and paint sets, lay out carpet squares, find the right music, clean up their messes, take them to the bathroom, and help them with their shoes. Teaching in general is very hard! Thank you for dedicating your life for something important!

I’m starting at a new high school this year, and I wanted to know what I could do to help my new teachers because it’s a brand new school that just opened this year. Any suggestions?

I’m right behind you.

I’m teacher trained and have a friend who is currently teaching. She has to set up the classroom at the start of every term, cause it’s not the job of the cleaners.

She also has to come in during the holidays to work and is at school every day at 8 and doesn’t leave some days till 4-5.

I laugh at people who say Teachers have it easy, holidays all the time and only working from 9-3. Ha I wish.

Every one should stand up and clap when a teacher enters a room.

I teach too. No AC! What a bummer. We have to change rooms a lot. i completely agree with you. I hear many people say, “Those who can’t do…Teach.” I completely disagree with them. I can remodel homes, handle finances, repair, construct, write, parent and do many other things. I know I could make 6 figures if I didn’t teach. I know many teachers who are making 6 digits because they handle their time and finances well. Our profession is a noble one where there are many sacrifices and selfless acts done every day. I think many people are bitter about life and do not like their own job. When they see the fact that we like ours and have summers off…they get jealous. Keep up the good work. Take care.

…and don’t forget, you can’t pee when you want to, you have to take unpaid mandatory training classes during YOUR summer, you can’t just call out sick – you have to leave a manual of instructions, you don’t have a phone at your desk like other professionals, you sometimes get boogers wiped on you, and people not in the profession think that what you do is cute and that you are sooo lucky to have summers off and only work from 9:00 – 3:00, you have to pay for basic supplies out of your own pocket JUST TO DO YOUR job, and the major perk…your big fat paycheck!

I feel for you…I have moved every year for the past 5 years in a row (I keep my packing boxes now!).

Good luck to you in the new school year!

And I take my hat off to you for doing it. Teachers do a good job these days when they have to put up with no support.

No support to deal with bad behaviour, no support to deal with abuse, no support to deal with bad pay, no support to deal with kids not getting help at home from parents or enforcing doing homework etc. I like it back in the days when parents and schools were a partenership.x

You do a good job. Well done.x

I realized that you all had to do some work at the school to get ready. But I didn’t realize how much you all have to work with things like setting up the room.

i think teaching is the most underrated job in the country. I’m a student myself and i realize that teaching requires so much effort, patience and skill. i wouldn’t want to deal with a bunch of teenagers every day the way you do and i’m a teenager myself

Yes I know the amount of work that is necessary for school, but many times if you didn’t do the work then you wouldn’t be able to customize your lessons to new ideas and theories.
