I need to get motivated for school… PLEASE HELP!!!?

How can I motivate myself to do well in school this year? I would really like to get straight A’s, because I’m entering high school and these are the years it really counts. I need to get good grades, along with a number of other things, in order to get a scholarship. And I need a scholarship to get into all of my top choices as colleges.

So what I’m really asking here is how can I get motivated to work hard? I’m already super busy outside of school and I go to a really hard private school that gives us sooo much work that’s it’s hard to keep up in all of my subjects, let alone excell in them. I’m also taking a lot of subjects including two languages (French and Latin). I usually get pretty average grades – A’s and B’s – but now I really need to crack down since I’m entering high school. College is very pressuring.

I just need some advice. How can I motivate myself to do better? I usually procrastinate A LOT (that’s a huge problem for me) and I am very forgetful.

There’s nothing wrong with A’s and B’s. Especially since it sounds like you have a lot of extracurricular activities. Actually, you sound pretty motivated already.

Be sure to do your homework every night, and to not be afraid to ask questions in class. Since you’re forgetful—try getting a planner to carry with you , and write down every assignment and due date. If you can get in the habit of looking at it, then hopefully you won’t forget as much.

You can also get some Post-its. In college, I’ve been like, addicted to them. Use them to make lists of things you need to do for the day. And to remind yourself to work on your paper or w/e.

Find a certain place to always do your work. A quiet place, not near a tv or computer. Put away your cell phone, and put your away message up. Try to limit all of these distractions, and it can help you stop procrastinating. Also, have you ever had a horrible time where you left a big project til the end, and had to work on it all night? Making mistakes like that help motivate me to not procrastinate. I actually still struggle with it, but i have learned a lot.

Allow yourself to take study breaks, have your parents nag you 😉 Put up a post-it on your refrigerator or in your room (somewhere where you’ll see it alot) and have it say something to remind you about your scholarship. OR put up a brochure of one of your favorite colleges. It will remind you of where you’re trying to go.

PS.-Don’t drive yourself crazy with TONS of hard classes. You want to be able to enjoy your life too. And, two languages probably isnt necessary.

You should start focusing more on school work by not joining too many after school activities. Going to the library is a good place to study because you have peace and quiet as well as books that can help you on a certain subject. Think about a person that you look up to and admire who makes you motivated then use that to motivate your spirits. Write down a schedule or itinerary for you to keep on track. Put a check on everyday you do what you need to do! Keep it posted somewhere you look at everyday.

You can get tutoring but don’t put pressure on yourself to get straight A’s because there are plenty A and B students who get scholarships to college. The odds of you making staight A’s for all four years are slim especially Junior year. It’s good you want to make good grades but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. My cousin made A’s and B’s and she received a scholarship and graduated. She is a nurse now.

Be sure to use some kind of planner or organizer. If you have a project you will procrastinate – break it into steps & give yourself deadlines in your planner, then stick to your deadlines! Check your planner EVERY day, even weekends, to make sure you aren’t forgetting something. If you miss a deadline you gave yourself, make yourself do something you hate – clean the bathroom or something. Then try really hard not to miss the next one, because once you let yourself go, it becomes easier to let the next one go.

Good luck, & have a great year!

take notes home everynight to look over from every class. you won’t need to study as much then once a test comes along because you’ll already know most of the material. keep doing after school acitivities because they are very important too. but, if you have practice or something and you really need to study, i’d skip practice just that one time to study. don’t give it all up, but put school first. good luck!
