If it is something that you have to remember in a specific order, I use acronyms like BEDMAS. If it doesn’t have an acronym, I make funny and dirty acronyms of my own that makes it really easy and when I say dirty, I mean dirty.
The best time to study is at night when you aren’t too tired but you are sure that you are going to sleep right after. You retain memory better in your sleep.
If you are doing a test or exam and you’ve been given over a week to study for it, study 1 hour every day at night for the test. More or less time depending on how much information the test/exam is covering.
However, one day before the test/exam, I find it better to just chill out and have a break from studying. That’s probably just me though.
Record your work. Read it out onto a tape or something what you need to study and then play it back while you are doing something else. It’s like listening to music only this time it’s your study stuff.
The sub-conscious mind picks up on it with out you realising it and also takes the pressure off as you are doing something else, like say drawing or working on a hobby. Just don’t force yourself. Then maybe a few hours later or the next day do some actual studying and you might find that you suddenly remember certain things or it becomes a little easier.
Good luck.
Please explain the above to your parents. If they ease up on you your scores will actually improve.
When studying keep the following in mind.
1. Study in a quiet place with all your materials handy.
2. Do your most difficult assignment first.
3. Try to think of mnemonics to help you remember.
4. Think of the relationships between what you are studying about and the major topic.
5. Have a well organized notebook. Date each assignment, handout, and homework. Use a loose-leaf notebook if allowed. Use reinforcements. Have sections dividers between subjects. Divide each section into homework, class notes, handouts and returned test papers.
6. Go over past tests and see and correct your errors.
7. Speak to your teachers and explain the problems and ask for help.
8. Many schools have help classes.
9. Ask questions in class when there is something that you do not understand.
10. Participate in class discussions.
11. You can receive excellent free on line tutoring at pathwhelp.com and jishka.com.
12. Most important is to RELAX.
Good luck.
