At my school, we didn’t have gym the first few days, and even if we didn’t have our uniform yet when we did start, the teacher totally understood, and she just told us to bring one certain outfit to wear to Gym everyday until you did get your uniform.
As for the place to put your books in your locker, you can get locker shelves at Target or Staples that are just a little platform that the rubber will help stay on the locker. There’s no stands or anything, it’s just secures to the side, and it might be able to hold your books. Before the first day, try it out in your locker, and if it doesn’t hold the books, you can just return it. But, it also looks like there is already a shelf in there, so maybe you could put your books on that if it’s not to high. If there are hooks on the locker, maybe you could hang a cloth bag on it and put your books in there.
And don’t worry if you don’t have any classes with your friends; it’s the same with probably 90% of the other students, so you will be able to make new friends. And, if you have the same lunch, you can eat with them.
And if your just entering middle school, the homework should not be too bad. Probably the most you’ll have is an hour in the middle of the year if it’s a public school. And, usually, the teachers will let it go if you are a few minutes late on the first few days of school if you are just entering. I hope I helped!
Homework is more difficult , and you should really be fairly serious about homework in middle school because it really prepares you for high school. Most of my middle school teachers were hardcore, but just do your work on time and it won’t be a big deal.
If you had posted this sooner I would have told you to go in early and see if you can get your schedule and learn where all the rooms are before you actually start school (you can try going there Monday, but chances are it will definately be closed so you can’t wander on Labor Day). Don’t sweat it, though, most buildings make sense roomwise in that all the 100s are on the first floor, 200s on second floor, 300s on third floor.
I never had uniforms for gym, but chances are you will have gym the first days, but they will use the time to just inform you about expectations in gym and different activities for the year and things like that.
For your locker, I used to have that kind as well. I would put my heavy books on the top shelf and put my lighter binders and folders on the bottom of my locker, but a lot of stores sell locker shelves which are small plastic things that assemble easily for you to have more shelves and better organize your locker.
And for your locker, buy a locker shelf for the bottom maybe. Ours are like that. Here’s how I organize mine:

For friends, just be yourself! Be friendly and nice to everyone in your classes, and soon enough you’ll make new friends. Homework? Just do it when you get home. Then it’s overwith and you remember stuff right after school vs. late at night after a night of hanging out, watching tv, dinner, etc. And unless your teacher is really cruel, you won’t have much homework on the first day other than maybe some review, and signing stuff about your course outlines.
First day… bring a map if you want. Your school website might have a printable one. But if not, just get there early to get used to your paths to and from your classes, to your locker, to the caf, etc. And getting there early also lets you find your locker, set it up, make it pretty, etc. And wear something you’re comfortable in, that you like how you look in it. You will have more confidence in yourself to make new friends, find classes, etc.
Good luck, you’ll be fine! ๐
Friends: some people change in middle and high school, but that doesn’t mean you have to loose all your friends or anything. you may become less close to some (not because anything bad happened between you and them, just because you may not have all the same classes, etc.) but don’t worry about that, it might not even happen. you’ll become closer to some of your friends and make new ones. stupid drama is probably going to happen (“she’s going out with HIM???”) but it’ll eventually blow over. middle school is pretty much just a hormonal mess, but everything blows over pretty quickly, so there’s nothing to worry about.
Homework: middle school isn’t all that bad for homework. maybe once or twice a week you’ll have a few hours worth, but the real loads don’t start until high school. just don’t procrastinate and get the homework done as soon as you can and you’ll be find.
Getting Around: it’s most likely that there will be signs or staff members directing you where to go. if not, just follow the crowd, and if all else fails, go ask in the office and i’m sure they’ll be very happy to help!
Gym: our school doesn’t have gym uniforms, we just wear pajamas and stuff like that, but if yours does, i doubt that you will have to partake in gym class until the uniforms come in. and don’t worry about showing up for gym on the first day of school and not having a “non-uniform” set of clothes to change into. you won’t have actual gym for the first time it’s on your schedule. instead they’ll just give you a briefing of what’s going on in the year, assign you gym lockers, etc. and once the uniforms DO come in and you have to change, it’s likely to be a bit awkward the first day and people will go rushing for a discreet location, but after that everybody will realize that since every single person has to change, they might as well just do it out in the open with a group of friends lol. it’s not like anybody in the locker room is actually surveying your body or anything. plus, you don’t have to change your bra and underwear, just your regular clothes.
Lockers: our school has lockers like those in the link, too. they were nice and roomey in middle school (maybe about a foot) but now that i’m in high school they’re really skinny and no more than 7 inches or so. personally, i think they’re WAY better than having the lockers on top of eachother! that way you aren’t climbing over people to get to your things. and what’s wrong with not having a place to put your books? just put them down on the floor of your locker, that’s always worked great for me (and everybody else in the school lol). but if it really bothers you, stores like staples sell little mini shelves that you can put in your locker. i think they’re kind of a waste of money though. just put your books and binders and stuff on the floor.
really there’s nothing to worry about. once you get used to the whole switching classes thing, middle school is no different than elementary school.
pay attention in class. and my locker looks like that too and i managed to fit my stuff in there just stay organized.
