They do NOT know what they want! Once at college most students change their majors, or at least their career plans.

It is okay to have a limited idea of what you want to do. Look at this as a research opportunity. Every composition class ask your teacher if you can write about some aspect of a teaching career. Once you have the ressearch done, job shadow if you can.

Relax. . . I’m almost 26, have been in college for 8 years, have both bachelor’s and master’s degrees already, am working on a Ph.D. at the moment, and *still* don’t know what I want to do.

The last time I knew what I wanted to do next, I think it was “go to college to study something” and I was maybe your age. The rest just kind of fell into place along the way, and I’m happy with it all so far. I’d decide I was going to go to some college, somewhere, for something and just leave it at that for a few years. Even if you don’t go to college, a) you’ve still always got the option by the time you graduate and b) you probably better learned how to work hard at something by taking on more challenging classes.

What I was always told is that almost nobody else really knows what they want, either, and a lot of the ones that think they do just make decisions early and *often*.

“Most people already know what they want in my class”… I highly doubt this. Here’s the deal… they might all think they know what they want to do, but that does change for most people. People even change majors while they’re in college because they aren’t sure what they want to do. Right now, just take the classes you have to. In high school, take the classes you have to and some that interest you. You don’t have to have a major picked out by the time you graduate high school. You can go to college and take some required courses and see if anything catches your interest. See what you like as you go along and by the time you around college age, then look at careers you could go for.

im 13 right now. i dont really see why you;re so desperate! you have plenty of time to decide. you have 8th grade and high school. on the way im sure you’ll bump into a class that has to do with kids. join clubs and see what you like to do and combine other interests to see what job is best.

as far as being a teacher… ask yourself, do you want to have more fun, or teaching? would you want to deal with little kids or teens? when you go to school, you’ll might want to notice what grade you liked best at school.

you should be worried when you’re a senior and on, but not now. you have plenty of time! 🙂

Your 13 so calm down, its good to have an idea on what you want to to but you don’t need to panic if you don’t, I am going to college and I still don’t know what I want to be. It would be a good idea to go to college, since you make more money that way. Once you go to college so many jobs open up not just teaching, so relax enjoy school for now, go to college and a job and major will find you.

Okay, you should ask yourself these questions. What class do I like best? What am I best good at academically? Do I have patience with kids? Handling kids requires a lot of patience. Also, what type of grades are more well behaved? Without you having a lot of problems about controlling them. After you answer these questions, you may have a clearer idea of what you want to be. Good Luck!!

You can be a teacher for first or second grade. You can do a lot of fun activities with them. That is the time they start exploring mathematics and spelling.

You can also consider being a Recreational Therapist.

Recreational therapists, also referred to as therapeutic recreation specialists, provide treatment services and recreation activities to individuals with disabilities or illnesses. Using a variety of techniques, including arts and crafts, animals, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, music, and community outings, therapists treat and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of their clients. Therapists help individuals reduce depression, stress, and anxiety; recover basic motor functioning and reasoning abilities; build confidence; and socialize effectively so that they can enjoy greater independence, as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of their illness or disability. In addition, therapists help integrate people with disabilities into the community by teaching them how to use community resources and recreational activities. Recreational therapists should not be confused with recreation workers, who organize recreational activities primarily for enjoyment.

It is summer right now. Take the time to reflect on yourself and your attributes. Think about what kinds of kids that you would like to work with. Do you like babies, children, tweens, teens? To do something with kids REQUIRES you to go to college. This is how you gain CERTIFICATION, a necessity in our license-required world. Teaching is a very hard job; it requires focus not only on your work, but on your kids, your colleagues, etc.

As a teacher, you can study everything. If you are like me, I realized that I enjoyed reading and teaching. I combined my two interests into majoring in english and history in college. Think about something like that. Reflect on what you like, what makes you tick, what gets you up in the morning (beyond your mother) and make decisions on that. Your tastes will change; its okay if your decisions do to. That is a natural part of life. You’re 13. You have your whole life ahead of you. Step back and think about it, and start to make choices that will help you make and attain goals. I am nearly 100% sure that majority of your classmates will change what they want to do when they get to college. Chillax and enjoy life. You’re 13. You have time.

Take some high school classes involving child development (if you have that program) and see if you like it. You don’t have to decide what you want to do right away. I’ve changed what I want to be 30-40 times now.

Hmm if you’re distressing, try to look into some of the jobs you might like to have. But it is true you shouldn’t have to worry about that yet. You’ll be growing in many other ways before you get close to this
