how much do principals and assistant principals make from a relatively affluent public school district.?
Favorite Answer
Starting pay for most with a Masters is around $45K-$50K, with a PH.D. $60K+
Considering they probably came up the ranks from teacher or administrator in the education system, they are probably making more as a Teacher with 20+ years in makes $50-60K so the average VP with exerience can make $65 to 75K and the Principal $75K – 100K, maybe a tad more.
There are also perks. THey might get to go to a conference all expenses paid.
Also realize it’s done by TEST or Resume, depending on school system. You may have to take a TEST and pass it to get on the Principals list and you stay a teacher or VP until a vacancy arises.
In smaller districts with money they may offer a nice re-location package and top salary to a Urban Principal with the inducement of a better life style. They work out a deal with the bank for best loan rates. Pay moving costs. Put them up somewhere free of charge for a period of time as they look for a house.
$150K is scraping your head on the ceilling in ANY University department unless you’re the Chancellor or President, but College professors get Grants and Fellowships and money from book publishing and lectures at other schools.
