I think its just 1 class in your 1st two years of study. However, I would probably take another as an elective or something. In your teaching curriculum, you’ll have to take a match class on “teaching math”. If you are teaching k-3, you have to teach all the subjects to your students. In 4th grades and higher, they usually have a specific Math and English teachers who teach just those subjects.

My college requires one math credit, but it must be at a specific level (200’s I believe), so if your grades are not high enough to enter that class, you must take some math pre-reqs. The school bulletin or handbook should tell you what the requirements are for each major. Many schools have this information avaliable online or you can call and ask an academic advisor.

I’m studying Elementary Ed in Oklahoma and here we have to take College Algebra and then 2 math electives. My school offers Teaching Elementary Mathematics I & II so I’m taking those instead of Calculus etc. Good luck!!

I found the LSU website with the degree path – looks like you need more math than i do:

My wife is currently taking classes to become a middle school teacher & only had to take one math class, & it was how to teach math. I ran a degree audit & it was the same for elementry school, but this could depend on the college that you apply to.
