Have a gift or reward (free HW pass?) for each student whose parents sign up on yahoo. Also try sending the information newsletter home w/the students. Try putting some important info on the site which includes parent concerns and a space for comments. A note from the principal and administrators as well as a list of upcoming events will add interest. Mail or send the 1st copy of this to the homes and note that all other newsletters will be available on the web.

If you have 90 out of 450 families, that means you’ve got 20% of families participating. That’s actually pretty good, so don’t feel too bad about it! Keep in mind that there are parents out there who don’t really spend time on the internet, parents who simply aren’t interested in what the parents’ association does and who don’t see the point of it (either because they are already very involved with their children’s education or because they are the type to not get involved), parents whose lives are so full with other things they don’t see the benefit of adding yet another thing to remember to check into online.

As long as the information is getting out that you exist (in school newsletters, maybe a flyer on a bulletin board at school, etc.), then there’s not much else you can do. The majority of parents probably know that the Yahoo group exists, so that’s likely not the problem. The only other thing to do would be to look at WHY parents aren’t joining and how to “market” yourselves so they want to join.

not everybody can be online 24/7…try text to cell phones…..then read this crap…ya wont believe it !!!read it on pc world page41 in the October issue….@ books a million or ur local library warning….ur bp will go way up !
