Secondly, grades *count* much more in high school than they do in middle school. Students start to actually care whether or not they’ll get a good scholarship or whether they’ll have to deliver pizzas all night and study in their spare time. Here’s a hint: getting scholarships, living in the dorm, studying instead of working grunt jobs–that’s the sweet life!
The folks that become independent learners (self-discipline is remembering what you want) begin to exert a kind of positive peer pressure on the ones who are still playing around. Eventually, the doofi begin to realize nobody’s paying attention to them, and they calm down, too.
Just imagine, why in Kindergarten did you like to watch kid audience shows like Barney? What do you watch now (maybe MTV? ABC? NBC? FOX? The CW?)? Why did you change from watching a big purple dinosaur to watching real life people tackle tough issues? It’s because you grew up and matured.
