how can i get my son to take school serious?

my son is really smart you know the one that doesnt have to work hard for the grades he is in 10th grade. He has honors coll algebra 2, honors geometry, honors engineering tech, spanish 2 he is failing world hist. And i found out today his teacher called me so like i do every night i asked him did he study w.history he said no i dont have it till wed, i told him his teacher informed me you are failing his class you need to study it all the time if you are failing it!! I always always enforce the importance of school . I think that is a lazy attitude to have from someone who is failing. I tell him his grades is his money for college

Sit down and talk to him. See if there is an issue with memorization, not reading the material enough to retain it, or some other issue with the class, and see if you can work together to find a solution. And make sure he sits down and studies as soon as he gets home, changing his study area to remove distractions.

There are multiple problems with being a bright student. Being smart can be deemed ‘uncool’, and even in some honors classes some try to prove they are more ‘cool’ by doing the minimum. So as a parent it falls to you to make his life hell until he works at school, like you have to do for your career, even though it is hard to do so.

So, keep in touch with the teacher. Make him write down the homework/assigned reading for every class in a planner and have the teacher(s) in the class(es) he’s not doing well in initial it. Check with the teachers to make sure it is accurate, and that they initialed it. (Be sure to have him do this as he leaves the classroom and not in class, as you don’t want him publicly shamed.) Take away privileges (tv, games, computer) until his homework is done, removing any of those from his room. The national news can be a part of a history class, so make sure to watch it yourself.

Read the material yourself, for history, and quiz him on it (or use end of chapter questions). For history, taking notes in a notebook often helps, as it forces additional memory connections. Reading for retention often requires a minimum of 3 readings. Also, questioning the motives of the publishers in the way they present the material can help with memory.

Also if he is failing one class, I’d recommend calling his other teachers and finding out how he is doing in his other classes.

Tell him he isn’t too well to trip the bus. It does not make you appear like a dork or some thing he might consider. Tell him if he does now not seize that bus on time each and every morning then you are going to remove the next: Tv Internet Phone Calls Friends That must get him going whilst he loses the matters he likes to do. Good success!
