Get him a dictionary or tell him that he will know all these words when he gets older.

The best way is to have him do his own work. He can either look them up in a traditional dictionary, or on line. Then have him write down the definition. After that, have him make up a sentence using the word (you can help here by giving an example, but make him come up with a totally different one).
Generally, those steps work very well in learning vocab!

Definitions and examples for the last 7 should be available in any poetry text. Find him a “how to write poetry book”–preferably from the library and have him practice writing some poetry. He can identify these aspects in his own poetry–better than memorizing because most tests don’t ask for a definition, they ask for identification.
If you can’t define the first three, don’t try to teach them.Just have him read current polical magazines. They use the terms enough for him to figure out what they mean–again that’s a better way for him to learn.

Please give him a dictionary. Our kids are taught to use dictionaries at school. Use flash cards to help him memorise the words with a slight meaning to the words.
