high school in the US? and geometry?

My friend from Suriname (South America) is planning to finish his high school in the US. He is in the 11th grade right now and hope to get in 12th grade in US. Is geometry a required study? Cos in Suriname, it is an elective. What subjects are often required in the transcript? He would be finishing Algebra 2, Chemistry, and English. I ask because i do not know if it would limit my friend to get to 12th grade, and then he would have to repeat 11th grade again. Therefore, i need some feedback for him if he should take geometry or not.

Thank you in advance. 🙂

It depends on the state and the school, they each have their own requirements. Where I live, geometry was required. You had to take alg.1, alg.2, and geometry. I am pretty sure that everywhere requires 4 years of english. And 3 yrs science. and 3 yrs math. If geometry is required at the US school, he should be allowed to take it his sr. year and not have to redo his jr. yr. Again…its hard to answer b/c all schools and states are different

Most schools I know of in the US make you take Geometry before Algebra 2 (but if he hasn’t had Geometry, he should definitely take it).
