Hey, I’ve got so much homework and no motivation to do it?!?

I want to get all A’s in school, I’ve got eight classes a day, im passing 3 and failing 5.

Every year since Kinder I’ve had all A’s. Now, I still want it, but everytime I see my homework, I’m like nah, I’d rather do something else, i’ll do that stuff later.

So, I’m in a sucky situation. I am lately cheating, not reading, getting by with things.

How do I change myself?! I think it’s the over load, there’s 8 classes day! I cant get out of them so thats not an option. Anyways, how do I stay motivated to do my homework and study?

I think the thing is also I go to school from 7:30-5:00 pm, and when I get home is 6 pm. I really dont want to do anymore work, I want to go to sleep. I mean, the work is a lot, it’s many college and high school courses.

What can I do to stay motivated and want to learn, instead of procrastinating and blowing off my work like I did tonight?\

Thanks, your input is highly appreciated.

You do have a long day. What used to help me when I was younger was the idea that the time I was expected to be in school was going to pass whether or not I did what I needed to do to finish. So I had to decide what I wanted to be doing in however many years it would take to finish. Let’s say I was a junior and I had 2 years left…in two years I could either be finished with high school, a drop out without the future or still in high school waiting to finish. The the same thing applied when I got to college. Did I want to be happy and successful in 4 years…or did I want to be still in school not making the money I wanted to make…or regreting that I never disciplined myself enough and not having the life I always wanted. When you put things off…sometimes it becomes too late. Not really but the older you get the harder it is to finish school…there are more excuses. In addition to the ones you have when you’re younger, there are one like “I have kids now and need a job” or “I’m too old to go to school”.

The bottom line is that life isn’t always about what’s fun at the moment. It’s a hard lesson to learn these days. Nike’s motto is the best suggestion I can offer…”JUST DO IT!!!”

My daughter was invited to a fancy country club for a b-day party yesterday. The girl’s mom is dating a doctor so it’s not like we live around a bundh of rich people. The girls were all talking about how fancy it was. I asked my daughter on the way out if she wanted to belong to a country club like that when she grew up…of course she said yes. I told her that there were only 2 ways that would happen. 1) she needed to get the best education she could to allow herself the job that would afford her the life to do so…or 2) marry a man who got the education that landed him a job that afforded him that life. I’d rather her rely on herself than be dependant on someone else for the lifestyle she wantes…but it’s true…and the common denominator is EDUCATION. You have to realize that if you put it off, you’re only hurting yourself.

FINAL THOUGHT:

Play now and pay later

I can relate. In fact I should be correcting papers right now instead of offering advice to others who have also procrastinated 🙂

You do have really long day! Is some of that time available to you to do some of your assignments?

Can you wake up and work after a short nap? If so, take one when you get home — no more than 20 min. Then sort your homework. Usually it will be good to get small and easy work done first so that you feel that something got accomplished.

If you don’t wake up refreshed after a short nap, however, begin that homework as soon as you can so that you don’t have to stay up forever.

Break up long term assignments into smaller parts. ie For a research paper, spend several nights doing the research, another sorting through it, and so on. Get it written a day or two early so you have time to think about it and revise if necessary.

Stay away from the TV, telephone, im, chatting, etc. until homework is finished.

Give yourself a reward for every assignment that gets finished. Little things. But not internet time wasters. They are too hard to turn off.

Consider your future if you mess around this year. Will you go to the college you want to? Have to take more time to get to that dream job?

Be tough!!! Do all good things for yourself. Good luck.

Change your thinking. Get excited. Sometimes how you say things can make a big difference. Tell youself that you “Get to… (insert the thing you don’t want to do)”. Say it out loud. You’d be surprised how much of a difference that makes. Also, make lists. It will give you a sense of what needs to be done and a sense of accomplishment when you get to cross something off the list. You can rate the items on your list by priority and start with the top priorities. You could set up a reward system as well. If you get a certain amount of things off the list, you get to do something you like or a piece of candy or whatever it is that you get excited about. Good luck!

I would prioritize the homework. It seems like you re overloaded with unnecessary work…Do the ones that matter the most and have some fun in the meantime. Youth doesn t last very long. You can always roll a joint and knock out that homework too.
