I teach High School and I can’t imagine doing anything else. It is much more satisfying than I expected. That is not to say that I don’t have days when I am frustrated or even angry about what happens but those are not the norm. I really love teaching.

I’ve been teaching for 6 years and I love it. I actually took a year off because I was overwhelmed after my first year. I got so bored that I couldn’t wait to get back to the classroom.

Yes the politics suck. Yes, teachers are often under appreciated. Yes, I know people who work half as hard and make twice as much. But I can’t imagine spending my days doing anything else.

Truthfully, I think if I were a better teacher, I would find my work more stimulating, but I can’t get from my students what I would really like. I have colleagues who can get their kids to produce and learn amazing things, but I haven’t had that much success.

That said, I really love my kids, my colleagues, my administrators. I can’t imagine doing other work or doing this work at another place. I trade stimulation for feeling loved and loving in return.

My mom was a 7th grade science teacher and from listening to her stories with students and dealing with the politics from the school district I can personally say I don’t think she was very satisified with the way things went. Especially with dealing with problem students who don’t get enough attention from their parents.
