For High school seniors! How to avoid pressure of first semester senior year?

by “pressure” I mean taking 5 or so AP courses + college stuff + sports.

I have been putting off my college essay for the summer, and now I have some idea of what I’m going to write about but no real first draft to even show for it.

Were you able to avoid the crunch of college applications? How?

The easiest way to avoid stress is to get these things done ahead of time. It’s ok that you don’t have your essay written yet- we actually did ours in AP English. Ask your English teacher to proof read your essay. Be aware of when your applications are due, remember, not every college has the same deadlines. This is especially true if you plan to apply early. I highly recommend applying at least early action (non-binding) because when everyone else is hurrying to finish, you’ll be done. It also forces you to get things done early! Do you need to take the SATs, SAT subject tests or ACTs? Look into them now! Also, as soon as school starts, start thinking about who you want to write your recommendations. Get your requests in very early, especially with popular teachers because they tend to get bombarded. Book an appointment with your guidance councilor early too! If you’re still visiting colleges I would do them in September, if you wait much later you might miss some of their deadlines.

Just remember, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get into your top choice school. If you focus on getting into ONE school you’ll stress yourself out more than you need to. I know plenty of people in college that didn’t get into their first choice, but still love where ended up. Good luck!

Always a good idea to have a game plan. Figure out everything that needs to be done, and create a sort of schedule for yourself. It’s easier to take the pressure off yourself when you know that you’ve created time to do what needs to be done. Leave spaces for having a good time, though. It is your seinor year, afterall. Above all, don’t leave everything until the last minuet. That never turns out well.

Just knuckle down and get all your s**t done before it starts to pile up on you. Be aware of deadlines, pace yourself on essays & papers.
