Does not having a diploma really matter?

I’m a junior in high school and sixteen years old. The prospect of finishing high school seems so pointless. I could get my GED and be attending a school for cosmetology by the time I’m 17.

Should I just get my GED and get a jump start on my future?

In most states you cannot take your GED until after you class graduates from high school.

Finish high school, the sense of accomplishment is worth the trouble.

The GED is tough, tougher than getting C’s in your senior year. How can you even be sure you could pass it. What would happen if you can’t pass and you dropped out?

Also, you seem so sure of your future but you really have no way to know if cosmetology will be right for you, until you work it. You might end up hating every minute. I know that I put everything I had into what I wanted to be, got it, and HATED it.

Stick it out, you are nearly done, and don’t be so quick to rush to adulthood. Trust me, mortgages, car payments, taxes and such are not as fun as they look to you now, in fact they suck. I only wish I could go back and re-do my late teen years…. lol

Good luck

The problem with that Idea is that right now education is free for you. If you drop out, and then try to catch up, it will cost you. In this country and time. If you do not finish high school, your income level will be limited. Even in cosmetology, you will need to understand chemestry especially as it pertains to hair and skin shades. I have seen some disasters related to this topic. bottom line if you want a bright future– stay in school.
