If you want to be a doctor, it is more than worth it. If you are doing a job that you want to do, then you don’t go to work, you go to your carreer. It may seem like a little thing but remember, you will only be in school a short time when compared to the 40 to 60 years you may be doing the job. Make sure it is something you like to do.

I think so, if it’s really what you want to do, why not? I’m guessing you are in middle school or high school, so you have the time now to really be able to pick what classes you want and need to prepare for being a doctor. But consider why you want to be a doctor….do you want to help people? do you want to see how you improve their lives? Do you want to be able to cure them of their illnesses? Is it because your parents want you to? Is it because of the money? These are things to think about and the last two questions would be reasons not to be a doctor, because you wouldn’t be doing it for yourself, and you won’t be happy ultimately in the end….you can always pick a job that you like more and then the pay won’t matter as much. But you seem like the previous reasons, so in high school, I’d say take Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and also the English classes and History, and the requirements, but take a lot of math and science courses, Aps if you can, or Honors so you can see what it would be like in college. For college, it doesn’t really matter where you go, but make sure it has a good science dept and you’ll probably want to be a Biology major, or a Pre-Med major to take the required classes you need to apply to med school and also the preparation for the MCATS, which is a test that decides where you go to med school. But also look into some schools that have a link with a Med school where if you keep your GPA up and take all the required classes, you will have an easier time getting that particular medical school…They’re called Combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine….I’d look into those because oftentimes they are worth it and accelerated so you get out into the work faster

People usually become doctors because it fascinates them—the good ones can’t even bear to leave the hospital at the end of the day because they are so totally involved in the mysteries of disease, patient care, diagnosis, surgery, etc.

I really think it’s a calling, like someone knowing their whole life they want to be a priest, or an actor, or some all-encompassing profession.

Duties, studies, and a work routine (not to mention pain, misery, disease, and death) that would turn my stomach, personally, thrill someone who is a doctor or nurse. That is their whole world. They LOVE it, and it is another existence, very different from our own. If you have that fascination, too, you would probably love to be a doctor, no matter how long it takes. But Nursing also pays very well, and is just as interesting and involving.

I know I wouldn’t want to go to a doctor who only got like 4 years of school. I’d like someone who’s been learning and studying all there is to know.

Well i dont think we should learn dumb things like history or writing if that isnt going to focus on a career like becoming a doctor. I think that we should only take the subjects nessecary

If you’re in it for the money, why not just be a lawyer over a doctor, it’s less time.

If being a doctor is your dream, don’t try to negotiate it. Just pay the price and do what you want to do.

Never negotiate your dream. Just do it.
