Do you think high school nowadays is too easy?

I am 15 and I just started my 10th grade year. I find everything to be so easy there. I take honors classes as well and all the teachers treat everyone like they’re back in 5th grade. They even forced me to get a binder to “teach” me how to be organized. Like I don’t know how after 10 years of school. They go very slowly on the easiest topics and don’t get a lot done. I read an article that polled several thousand students what they thought about high school. Most said something along the lines of “I think it could be more challenging or interesting.” I agree 100% with that. What should we do to step it up a knotch in public high schools? I know everybody isn’t as smart as me, but this is just getting ridiculous.

It depends on where you are and what socio-economic area your school is in, but in general for the US I would say yes! It is shameful but I’ve been noticing that school as well as college/university (not all) standards are falling. Many teachers seem too concerned with how their students appear to be doing and they hand out easy A’s, apply curves, or give extra credit instead of evaluating how the student is really doing and giving them a grade they deserve. The standard of writing in any class is appalling and too casual. I really hope things improve soon or this country will be full of “professionals” who don’t know much. Good luck in your classes and remember that you’re learning for yourself and in the end its all worth it, no matter how pointless some of it may seem! Sometimes I slack off in college because other students get the same grade as me for poor quality work and its not fair, but remember that you should always do your best no matter what. 😀

**of course you have extra classes and there is more material than in the 50’s etc..but that doesn’t mean the standards are harder. Compared to the rest of the world it is not, and compared to what it was before it has declined. Sometimes you have to challenge yourself to stay focused. Don’t worry about what people say, it may get harder for you or it may not, either way you are intelligent enough to be even asking this question.

I’ve handiest taught for one 12 months and I coach prime college and I might throw down an emphatic vote for top college being MUCH less difficult to manipulate. That might be centered on educating ninth graders vs. eleventh graders. ninth graders are ridiculous and do probably the most absurd matters and feature little or no area or regard for authority. I can handiest suppose that eighth and seventh graders are extra complicated. But the gigantic change for me educating in prime college is that the content material is plenty extra complicated and thus intriguing. It’s less difficult to keep a category whilst you’ll be extra unique. If you have got a higher technology lab and higher gear you’ll layout higher labs. That’s my opinion, I am a technology instructor however I do believe that higher assets and higher curriculum result in higher leadership below the proper constitution. And what instructor does not like handling area??? That’s wherein your entire well studies come from, what different career might I have a scholar get caught in a rubbish can? That might had been the funniest factor I noticed in two years. Teaching with out area might be plenty extra uninteresting.

I agree with tkquestion. It does sound like you are egotistical. The beginning of the year is where everybody gets incorporated into the new year. Also, you shouldn’t base your evidence on only one survey. There are plenty other surveys out there that showcase a whole different attitude. Smart people shouldn’t look down upon their peers. They should be aiding them. A smart person would know this, so I guess that means you aren’t what you think you are.

I’m in my 50’s and I’m a high school public school teacher of gifted students. I can promise you that school today is harder for my students than it was for me. They are required to take calculus and physics and at least 2 years of a foreign language, for example; whereas, when I was in a private high school, it just didn’t seem as difficult. My students go on to become doctors, lawyers, computer software creators, etc. I don’t know. I guess we also have “dummies” coming through my high school breezing along. Let’s say high school is what YOU make it. Take the more challenging courses!

I guess it depends on your school really, and what you make of it. I go to a good public school take probably all senior classes( I’m a junior) and really enjoy them. Michigan has a bad rep in general cause of our obesity and other crap statistics and it’s retarded. My school is very productive and they are stepping it up too, changing the requirements and such. I guess you just have to have faith in your school board and take as many AP classes as you can. i know how you feel i am intelligent and liked to be challenged.

You may think you are smart, but I can tell you, you have a lot of growing up to do.

You just started 10th grade. Your teachers have not even begun teaching the subject matter. They are trying to get the feel for where everybody is, so that he/she can maximize their teaching effort. It seems you have already decided the whole public school is below you. Truly smart person won’t make that kind of judgment this early. He or she knows there are a lot that hasn’t been uncovered, yet. Also a truly good person won’t put himself on such a high stool and declare his superiority.

It is one thing to strive to be his best. It is quite another to discount what is presented to him so early in stage and reticule the whole system. Just wait. You will be wishing to retract your statement in few years, if you don’t change your ways soon.

Grow up!
