Do students taking AP courses in High School normally need to purchase the book?

Or is it provided by the school? My son is taking AP World History this coming year. His summer homework assignment has the book listed along with the book’s website – which is telling me that they expect me to purchase this 100 dollar text. What’s up with this?

usually summer reading homework does ask that you purchase your own book or check it out at the library if they have it. when he goes back to school in the fall, they will supply the books. its only for the summer , dont worry.

The AP History textbook will be provided to your son if he’s in a public school.

However, expect to pay some money if he’s in a private school.

The AP study guide book, however, you definitely have to purchase yourself. Unless your college office in his school allows people to borrow some AP books.

I am a high school English teacher. I have never heard of a teacher requiring a student to purchase the text, however, since it is supposed to be a college level class, I suppose it is fair. If I was you, I would find it used on amazon.com!

If the course is given at a public highschool, in the US, I believe the books must be provided by the school; education is free.
