I went to public school here in LA county.. class of ’03. We were definitely not taught typing in elementary, as it’s kind of a tedious thing, and I’m certain most elementary school kids wouldn’t be too thrilled about it. It wasn’t offered in my middle school either, but I did take it in high school, and I can honestly say it’s helped me tremendously. :o) I’d imagine high school is mainly where they teach typing.

Here in MS, kids are required to take a typing course (Computer Discovery) in the eighth grade. We learn a bit of typing in elementary school, but that time is usually just reserved for getting acquainted with the computer.

I am pretty sure that typing is taught in most elementary schools. I remember being taught typing in second grade. Very good typing program. I would think its widely taught in elementary schools since computers are pretty much part of life these days.

Schools around here do, but usually not until 4th grade. Students younger than that do not have the finger strength or control to make the task of learning how to type worthwhile.

In NC, it’s a middle school thing. You have to take a computer class to graduate from middle school.

i dont think its taught that early in the uk…..or at all actually- i think theres hardly anyone in our year who can type properly- i only can cos i taught myself at home
