Legally you can work at 15 (despite what people will tell you), but, you must have a parent sign some kind of form. And your employer might not pay you minimum wage becase they don’t have to, you don’t fall under the Minimum Wage law until you’re 16, but all of the money that you make at 15 comes to you, when you’re 16 then you have money taken out of your paycheck for taxes and social security.

a real part-time job will be really hard because you are young. you can start working with washing dishes and low key stuff when youre about 14-15. Babysitting is the best job ever, you get paid a ton! you can ask for 5 dollars an hour, but most parents raise it up to 7 or 8 and as you get older can ask for 10! mowing grass, picking up leaves, and shoveling snow are also great ideas. You can also start a small buisness by making NICE crafts that people WANT to buy!!!

Here’s what my kids have done…

Babysitting – $20 for 2.5 hours = $7.50 per hour

Dog-Walking – $5 for 30 min. = $10 per hour

Lawn Mowing – $5 for 20 minutes/lawn = $20 per hour

Our community pool hires age 14 & up to be gate attendants. $7 per hour.

My daughter (13) has been a research participant at a major local university, and gets paid $40 per hour.

She also volunteers 6 hours per week at a private animal shelter. No pay, but great job experience.

My son sold lollipops door to dorr from about age 12. He bought them at the factory and resold them in our neighborhood. He earned $10 – $20 per hour this way.

Legally, you cannot be employed until you are 16. Sure plenty of kids work earlier, but most lie about their age or the employer doesn’t report the wages.

The best and safest bet is to work for a relative – wash cars, mow yards, babysit. Those are safe and wages are not required to be reported.

It depends on what state you are in. In Virginia, where I live, you have to be fifteen years old and you have to have a work permit signed by your school and your parents, and the employer that has agreed to hire you beforehand. I don’t really know much about it but I suggest looking up the child labor laws in your state.

Be a babysitter! If you’re just starting middle school, then you can’t be a sitter in a house by yourself, but you can be a Mom’s helper.

You have to be 14 to start working legally…otherwise they consider it child labor…and also I am working and I am 14..I earn 7.50…but that is only cuz my mom is the boss…usually somebody with no experience may get minimum wage which is different in every state. in mine it is 6.85

you need to be fourteen to get a job, and even then it’ll be tough. if you want to get a job before then, you would have to work for a family company. a couple kids in my grade work at their family restaraunts, and they get huge tips and a good pay check. 😉
