Can high school students perform nude in Equus?
If it is a pitvotal part of the play how could a high school put on the performance? The actors, even upperclassmen, would most likely be underage. Has it ever been done in the US with high school students performing naked?

I really doubt it. People kind of have a problem with nudity here in the States as opposed to Western Europe…

Recently, a magnet high school in Nashville did Hair, and the students were allowed to do the full frontal nude scene with permission contracts from their parents. It was quite controversial for conservative Nashville, but in the end, it all worked out. The local news stationed interviewed a boy and a girl about their naked experience, and both commented that it was the most enlightening experience of their lives, and they wouldn t trade it for anything.
If you ask me, we are far to uptight about nudity in this country. Somehow, we think it is perfectly OK for our kids to go to a movie and see people getting their heads blown off with guns, stabbed, raped, and all sorts of grotesque violence, but heaven forbid a 14 year old boy see a nipple. It s ridiculous!

equus makes no sense without the nude scenes, but no teacher would dare rehearse nude students.
the play is unsuitable for school performance. you should choose something with no sexual content (such as ‘a midsummer night’s dream’).

There are definitely laws against it. You might be able to get away with full body-color suits — but I don’t know.
